We celebrate janamashtami in our hostel

Early morning girls went for “Matka Yatra”. Matka means earthen pot which is filled with curd, milk, butter. All girls went to village. The village people took the blessing from lord Krishna and offer some money into the pot. We also illuminated the hostel and temple on this auspicious day. After that the small children played drama to convey the tale about Krishna’s life.

He was born in a prison of kansa. Vasudev , his father immediately thought of his friend Nand and he decided to hand over his child to him to save lord Krishna from kansa. Because kansa wants to kill Krishna. But when Krishna grew up, then he killed, the demon King kansa. All the people believe that Shri Krishna ‘s birth was to free the Earth from the evilness.

At evening , the big boys involved together and make a pyramid to broke an earthen pot with curd, butter which is tied at a convenient height. We all children enjoyed and laughed a lot because its difficult to make a pyramid and very difficult to break the pot from the height. The boys fall again and again on the earth. After a long time and great hard work, finally they were successes. This event is based on the legend of the child God-Krishna stealing butter.

The actual celebration of Janmasthami takes place during the midnight as shri Krishna is believed to be borned on a dark, stormy and windy night at 12:00 am. All of us worshiped lord Krishna and stay throughout the night, listened lord Krishna’s tales and sung devotional songs. At midnight the statue of Lord Krishna is bathed with milk and laid in a cradle, and we prayed it. After that sweets were distributed to all. The ceremony come to close at 12:15 pm.
